#83. Vitamin Supplements for Birds

Over the last 6 months I have been feeding my birds fresh foods rich in Vitamin A because the last birds at Vet were potentially low on Vitamin A. I took Ringo to the Vet last weekend & he also had papillaes that were slightly blunted so could be a Vitamin A issue. He has never had this issue, so I decided to go back to adding more of a variety of fresh foods & to try a Vitamin A supplement. I am wondering if together the varied diet helps him.

Water soluble Vitamins added to water or fresh food is recommended due to better absorption. The brand I have used on & off over the years is called Nekton & it is water soluble. It has a variety of options depending on the bird’s needs. I will list the basic use for a number of the Nekton options.

  1. Nekton S: Multi-vitamins with amino acids (13 vitamins with 18 free amino acids)
  2. Nekton Biotin: High in Vit A
  3. Nekton Q: With Extra Vitamin K, Emphasis on Vitamin A,E, &K when on antibiotics or recently been on them.
  4. Nekton Biotic Bird: Probiotic supplement
  5. Nekton Tonic I: For insect eating birds
  6. Nekton Tonic F: for fruit eating birds
  7. Nekton E: Good health & increased fertility
  8. Nekton R: Brighten Red feathers, prevents fading
  9. Nekton Fly: Doves & Galliformes
  10. Nekton Booster: For sport birds like Pigeons or Falcons

Be sure & follow the directions & measure the supplement & the water. If adding to food or water be sure & monitor your birds to be sure they are eating & drinking. Most birds like the flavor so it’s not an issue. Be sure & wash dishes & give fresh water daily with the supplement added. If adding a supplement to fresh food be sure & remove after 2-3 hours. It is recommended to finish up the Vitamins by 3 months after opening.
