#86. Gifts Your Cat Might Like for Christmas

Cats like many pets have toys they enjoy & play with often or ones they ignore. Cats are usually night owls so many cats play with toys & objects when we are fast asleep in dreamland. I remember when I had a cat & would I give her a new toy & she would ignore it, then I wake in the AM to find it someplace else. She obviously was playing with it. Just like all of us, we have things we enjoy more than others & sometimes something different is more fun than we expect.

There are a lot of great gift ideas for cats & I hope your kitty has been good & will get a gift this upcoming Christmas. Some cats like toys that move, some like things they can scratch & bite or chase. Knowing your cat & trying new toy ideas to find something your cat likes can be fun & challenging. Please know if your cat hates a toy you buy there probably is a shelter cat or rescue cat nearby that would love the opportunity to have a new/used (or unliked toy). Some pet stores even donate returned toys to local shelters & rescues.

Cats have such different personalities & some are very curious & would love an interactive toy like the one above. I have a coworker whose cat loves to chase a mouse on a YouTube video made for cats. That can be a great gift for a certain cat, & time spend watching them will make you laugh & smile & it is pretty much free.

Some cats like to be inside things like tunnels, or bags & if they make a crinkle sound even better. My cat I had for 18 1/2 years (from her birth to her death) loved paper pages & if you would toss a small ball in there & she’d chase it in there & play in the bag with it or interact with me from inside the bag. She also loved to get in a cardboard box that she could barely fit into & curl up for a nap. Now some cats would like a nice cat bed to curl up in, but Bo Bo preferred an empty box.

My brother Tim’s previous cat(Shelby) loved anything made of string or yarn, if you would dangle or run it around a corner she would go after it & play & play as long as you played along. My sister had cats that loved the ring from a gallon milk jug, or a piece of paper rolled up right in a ball & tossed on the floor. They also liked those little plastic balls with bells in them & you would hear them get batted around the house. So toys don’t have to cost a lot, just be entertaining for your cat.

Some cats would prefer to find a nice healthy snack in their stocking this year. Sadly I found out it is not easy to find healthy treats for cats. Many are full of preservatives or other things that really aren’t good for a cat. I found many treats are made with chicken or chicken bi-products or farm raised fish. Both of these animals are often treated with antibiotics whether they are sick or not, some given hormones to make them bigger, so more meat. I suggest reading labels & looking up any ingredients you aren’t sure about.

These cat treats are made with Wild Caught Fish which is safer for both humans & pets.

Another idea you might want to consider is to donate a $ gift to a local animal shelter nor Humane Society in your pets name. You could find out what your local animal shelter pets needs are & donate items, you could ask neighbors, family or friends to donate as well.

Over the next 4-6 weeks I plan to write about other gift ideas for the Holidays for a variety of pets that might be in your life this year or at a shelter or rescue nearby. I know some people may not buy their pets gifts for the Holidays, which is fine. Some years I have & others I have not, sometimes other people have bought them gifts.
