#51. “Pupsicles” Treats for Your Dogs

I decided being close to summer it would be a good time to share my idea for a healthier cold frozen treat for your dogs. I have seen others talk about this, but I have seen ingredients used that are not really good for your dogs(yogurt, & cottage cheese). Many people don’t know that dogs are lactose intolerant. I try & use more natural things or healthier things when available whether for me or my pets. When picking material for your dog popsicles trays I prefer metal or silicone over plastic. One for making treats for dogs 25-70 lb dogs like this https://amzn.to/4mIvObj it allows you to make 6 at once. If you have a larger dog over 75 lbs they make larger ones for them as well. https://amzn.to/3ZGDH71 If you need or want to make 9 at once this would be a good choice. https://amzn.to/4jAzV6D

I use Organic beef bone broth as the liquid to help everything freeze together. This one only has a few ingredients & are safe for dogs https://amzn.to/4mK4Sb7 You can also use beef bone broth like this https://amzn.to/3Su6WWZ Reading the ingredients & knowing they are safe for your dog. I recommend you stay away from ones with a lot of spices. garlic is fine & a little pepper is fine, avoid artificial ingredients, no added salt(a little sea salt ok), a little onion is ok,. I’m on the fence about mushrooms as most don’t say what type of mushroom, so you can’t research whether they’re ok for them. I don’t feed chicken because many dogs are allergic to chicken, so I don’t risk it.

Some of the things I put in my frozen dog treats are: 1. Canned pure pumpkin Can buy multiple https://amzn.to/4dUjUaf or just one can of organic pumpkin https://amzn.to/3T4bUtD 2. Quality canned dog food https://amzn.to/4jCo4ot https://amzn.to/43MLLVi 3. Quality dog food kibble 4. Frozen peas & carrots like these https://amzn.to/3Ze4He3 5. Frozen blueberries https://amzn.to/3T2RHEq or you can use fresh if you have. 6. Quality treats such as pure dehydrated liver https://amzn.to/4jHekJO 7. A small piece of banana per treat (not too many fruits as they are a sweet, a natural sugar). 8. Fresh vegetables that your dog likes such as shredded Zucchini.

Please read my post #38 on fresh foods you can feed your dog, it will explain which foods can be fed raw & which ones should be lightly steamed so dogs are able to digest & not bother their digestive system.

I add about 3-5 ingredients into each compartment in the silicone trays, then I add organic beef broth to the top & freeze. Please always monitor your dogs when giving them the frozen treats. I have one dog that eats fast, so I use trays that have covers that have rings so I can hold them while he licks it. The trays look like these https://amzn.to/4kQ Echo is not a dog who guards his food or treats, so I know I am safe. I don’t recommend the finger holding type (ring) if your dog is at all possessive or protective of things (resource guarding) he or she deems theirs. Your safety comes first.
