Today is Spree’s 8th birthday. She came to me thru a shelter as a foster & I adopted her She was about a year old when I got her. She is what’s called a White-faced Cockatiel which is a very beautiful color mutation in my eyes. I had wanted a White-face for a long time. I fostered a male, but we never bonded, so I didn’t think it was fair to adopt him. I have had Cockatiels for I’d say about 40 years, it was the second bird I got after Zebra Finches. I have never been without at least one since, probably not had less than 2 since I got my second Cockatiel. I currently have 3 Cockatiels. Spree is a bit of a snob, as I have had with some of my other female Cockatiels, she lives with Jonah who is another Cockatiel. I do not recommend males & females live together as they can breed or the female can start to lay eggs which can lead to issues with her health. Spree wants Jonah to preen her feathers, but ignores him when he wants her to preen him. The reason these two live together is because Jonah’s previous roommate who was 20+ years old passed away. He was so sad & it really was affecting his health. I took him to the Vet & it appeared to be more of loneliness, so I told her I would try & see if he would accept Spree. It took some time, but they bonded & Jonah put on weight, feathers looked better & my Vet was happy as well. Spree is a beautiful bird & I hope she is with me for a long time. She loves toys she can shred & she is a good eater, enjoys the seed & nut mix I make for them, along with fresh foods 3 days a week. She is quiet most of the time, as females tend to be. Spree & Jonah go to the Vet together for their yearly checkups, as they don’t like to be apart & will be very vocal about it. Everyone at the clinic knows when the Vet is checking one & they are separated for a few minutes. A photo below will show you both birds Happy 8th Birthday Spree !!!!!!
