Today I celebrate Hunter’s 6th Birthday, I adopted Hunter when he was about 9 months old so that put his birthday in July. He was from a Humane Society in Indiana & was fostered after a week or two in their facility. He was a stray & from what I was told he gave Animal Control a run for their money & it took a while to catch him (think a few days to a week). It is rural out there so probably places to run & hide. He isn’t very smart so surprised he was hard to catch. He is such a Velcro dog now & wants to be near me whenever possible & doesn’t run off or try & escape the yard.
Having a dog that is bonded to you is very nice, building trust with an animal pays off. They love being with you, some will protect you & do not want to go far from you, so running away is far less likely.
In 5 weeks from tomorrow my dogs will be joining me, my sister & a friend on vacation. We are renting a house on 80 acres & my dogs will get to explore & find lots of new things to smell. Hunter has been good in the rental houses so far & enjoys hanging out with us, hiking & walking.
Hunter is not a dog who really is into toys, so chews are more his choice for a gift. He got a 12″ Bully stick & some Beef lung chews. His dog brother Echo got one two, I can’t give one a treat & not the other.
I prefer single or minimum ingredient treats for my dogs. Hunter is allergic to coconut, so I watch the ingredients in treats & in foods.
Hunter is a sweet gentle dog who likes most everyone he meets, he isn’t thrilled if people try & pet him on the top of his head. This is true for most dogs, reaching over a dogs muzzle to pet their head makes dogs nervous (predators attack from above). He will give people a second chance, he doesn’t hold a grudge. He prefers adults over kids, is fine with most dogs, usually ignores them, He loves is dog brother Echo.
